Six years ago I called the John Maxwell Company and asked for 10 minutes of John’s time. Where that may sound bold and courageous, I didn’t feel bold at all. I felt totally out of my element and the fear of rejection was huge. I made the call in spite of the negative thoughts and feelings that were trapped inside of me. I was finally at the place where my dreams had become bigger and stronger than my fears. I was no longer willing to allow the comfort of a six-figure income to limit my potential of achieving a more mission-driven life. This photo of John and I was taken last month at the International Maxwell Live Event in Orlando, FL. It is much more than a photo with the world’s leading leadership expert; it is the physical manifestation of a dream realized.
Transitioning from a corporate IT leader role to a Leadership and Personal Growth Coach, Trainer, and Speaker didn’t happen because I wished for it. It happened because I became intentional about living my dreams. James Allen, author of As a Man Thinketh. said “People are anxious to improve their circumstances but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain bound.” I took this one quote to heart and began to focus on my own personal growth. Today I’m continuously growing and one of my greatest forms of joy come from knowing that I am helping others to grow and achieve their dreams.
In 2014 my client Barbara (not her real name) came to me for career coaching because she was frustrated with being undervalued at her current company. She was crystal clear about what she didn’t want but as clear as mud about what she did want. I started her with a vision exercise and within three months she landed a fulfilling position with a fortune 500 company that more than doubled her previous income! She went from $70,000.00 to earning over $170,000.00 within three months of working with me. Barbara and I continued to meet after she landed the position and worked on positioning her for future growth. It’s almost 3-years now and she’s still passionate about her work.
In my next blog post, I'll share more about how I've helped others grow personally, professionally, and spiritually. Also, I'll provide more tips on how you can achieve your personal and professional dreams.
