The Florida Blueberry Festival
blueberryThe Annual Florida Blueberry Festival of Brooksville, Florida will be held on Saturday, April 11th and Sunday, April 12th. The festival will have a special kick-off day on Saturday to begin the festivities! Last year the festival drew over 50,000 visitors and this year it is expected to grow exponentially. With the theme of blue, the festival has brought in many popular blues musicians as well as other genres. Arts and crafts are also a large part of the festival with pre-festival art shows running through Sunday.
As you might guess, the biggest part of the festival is the blueberries themselves. Blueberries in Florida come ripe in March and the season last until May, a time of year when fresh blueberries are not available anywhere else. These are shipped across the county to grocery stores everywhere. The festival celebrates this unique niche with sponsors like Dole Fruit and the Florida Blueberry Growers Association. Growers and those who produce blueberry products come from all over to showcase their goods. There are blueberry pies, candies, pastries, preserves, and even florida-made blueberry wines. You can sample all of these at the festival and even purchase some as gifts.
Enjoy tasting any one of six varieties of local wine from the Island Grove Win Company. Their famous blueberry wines include Kinda Dry, Kind Sweet. Other flavors include Rustic Rasberry, Backpoarch Peach, Bold Blackberry, and several others. Visit one of the many food trucks and enjoy hot off the griddle blueberry pancakes or crapes. Mmmmm!
Other fair favorites include fresh kettle corn, a local parade, street entertainers, competitions and contests, rides, lots of local vendors.
