I hope everyone had an enjoyable Mother's Day celebrating those special ladies who are part of making this world a better place. I had the opportunity to be around three special women who have a great impact in my life - my wife, my mom, and my mother-in-law. It was great to get the chance to show my appreciation for them by cooking a meal and dessert they actually thought was decent and enjoyed. :)
This got me thinking about how much or how little we do for ourselves. Therefore, I wanted to provide some information this morning to encourage you, and myself to do something good for ourselves to make us happier and healthier people. The IRS sometimes can be the bain of our existence, but every once in a while they get it right. I hope if any agents are reading this they have a sense of humor - :)
Seriously though, in a document called the IRS Publication 502 which I've attached to this post, the IRS list all the things you can claim for medical expenses on your federal taxes. Some states like Oregon even passed their own Senate bills requiring insurers to set aside money for their members to pursue wellness programs. The IRS includes has an array of options from acupuncture to weight management, so don't let the present cost of a program prevent you from pursuing something that will create a healthier and happier future in 2014.
