As immunologists we get questions about what does it mean to have IgG and IgM antibodies. IgG antibody levels indicate an immunity resulting from past exposure to an infectious agent such as virus or bacteria.
IgM antibodies are produced during the acute stage of infection as these antibodies have multiple facets to fight infections. IgM antibodies being negative indicates that you do not have an active infection.
These tests are done in serum samples.
