Mucus in Asthma

‚ÄčThick mucus has been a real problem for my patients with asthma. One common cause of difficulty in breathing in patients with asthma is thickening of mucus secretion which can plug the airway and result in worsening of asthma.

Mucus thinning medications such as guaifenesin present in Mucinex and Robutussin has been very beneficial. One other item which I prescribe to patients is a mixture of Dyphylline and guaifenesin (Difil-G) which I find very useful to bring the secretion up because of additional dilating effect on airway.
