Disparities in Health Care

As physicians we are aware that disparity in delivery of healthcare exists among different population groups such as ethnic minorities and individuals belonging to the low socio-economic group. I was surprised to read about the fact patients older than 65 years of age also receive inferior healthcare delivery. After paying all life for Medicare, it is
distressing to learn that we join minority and people of the lower socioeconomic group as far as receiving quality health care. Forty percent of a primary-care physician in a survey acknowledged the existence of healthcare disparities in their own practices, while 88% acknowledged its existence in general (Wenger, N.S., 2013)
