Island Grove Wine Company
Nestled in the forests of Central Florida, just a short drive North of Ocala, is the Island Grove Wine Company. This well-kept secret is starting to make some big waves in the wine community. Island Grove is becoming famous for its 100% blueberry wines as well as other specialty fruit wines. These desirable wines are currently carried at Sweetbay grocery stores throughout the state and more distributors are carrying them everyday.
The Island Grove Agricultural Products company began in 1994 as a producer of blueberries for grocery stores. When they had a surplus of berries, the idea formed to start fermenting them into a unique and delicious wine. An expert wine maker, Chase Marden, was brought to the facility to begin the great experiment which would eventually become the Island Grove Wine Company.
Today the Island Grove Wine Company uses berries from over 300 acres of blueberry fields to make their wine. Their broad selection currently features 8 varieties with the promise of more to come. These include: Sorta Sweet Blueberry Wine, Kinda Dry Blueberry Wine, Rustic Raspberry, Back Porch Peach, Bold Blackberry, Southern Strawberry, Crisp Green Apple, and a Holiday Wine which is seasonal.
Although this company is growing and busy, they are always happy to have visitors. Island Grove offers winery tours every day (provided you call in advance). Wine tastings and field tours are also provided complimentary to large groups which arrange trips in advance.
