The Haunted Harborside Inn
Located in Block Island, this area was settled by our European ancestors in 1661. The Harborside Inn has been accommodating travelers for more than a century. The area around Block Island has been the site of numerous shipwrecks, including the Steamer Larchmont in 1907. The 1738 wreck of the Princess Augusta (also known as the Palatine ship) was later immortalized by John Greenleaf Whittier in his 1867 poem, "The Wreck of the Palatine", among whose verses the words "Circled by waters that never freeze, Beaten by billow and swept by breeze, Lieth the island of Manisees", have become well-known. Moving forward, the 36 Harborside Inn rooms were all renovated in 2009.
Many claim this beautiful island had a dark past. There are many of ghost stories from just about every establishment on the island. The Harborside Inn is not excluded. It's hauntings includes a woman that is dressed in 19th centry black dress on the thrid floor seenn entering room 302. Desk clerks have reported a sensation of being grabbed around the waist from behind, as if someone were trying to move them out of the way.
