Angelica G. Muns Nursing Scholarship Awards by

The Community Foundation for Ocala Marion County

Ocala, Fla 8/26/16– The Community Foundation for Ocala Marion County is excited to announce the awarding of the Fall 2016 Angelica G. Muns Nursing Scholarships, each in the amount of $2000, to four qualified applicants:

Aleida Martinez - Kristie Navarro - Kathy A. Plemmons - Maritza G. Segarra

All are currently seeking degrees in nursing through the College of Central Florida Nursing Program. The scholarship presentations will be held on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31, 2016 @ 4:30 PM at the College’s new Nursing Simulation Lab.

The Community Foundation is honored to administer the Angelica G. Muns Nursing Scholarship.  Mrs. Muns, a United States Airforce Lt. Colonel, was a registered nurse who served during World War II. Her love of her military service and of her chosen profession led to the establishment of a nursing scholarship to ensure that those wanting to excel in the field of nursing had the opportunity to obtain a nursing degree.

Mrs. Muns and her husband had both received excellent healthcare in Ocala/Marion County. This scholarship trust was established in recognition of the exceptional care they received.  The legacy scholarships not only enable students to pursue nursing degrees but post-graduation, the trust stipulates that they continue their career in an acute healthcare facility for up to an additional two years. Qualified applicants/recipients must be enrolled in a certified nursing program in Marion County and maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the duration of their schooling.

“We are honored to administer the Muns Trust Scholarship as part of our family of managed scholarship funds”, Founding Chairman Frank Hennessey commented.   He further noted that access to education and training opportunities in these high demand nursing fields will not only provide critical skills training toward quality medical care but will serve to stimulate essential job growth so vital in our community.

Administering the Muns Nursing Scholarship is in keeping with the overall mission of the Community Foundation to serve as a – CONVENER – COLLABORATOR – CATALYST – for community building.   The Foundation serves as a centralized portal for philanthropic giving and a unified voice for all local non-profit entities and the causes they champion.
