The stars, along with the work of Butch Jones and his players, may be aligning for the Volunteers to get back to where they once were.
Tennessee is still in transition, though not the same one Butch Jones inherited. This fall, as the hype at SEC Media Days has officially validated, the hope is that potential will now result in performance. Perhaps the Volunteers are still a year away. Maybe this season they will contend. One thing, however, is certain; Tennessee is very much in the conversation.
From five wins in 2013 to seven, including a bowl triumph, a year ago, many believe the Volunteers will be the top contender to likely pre-season favorite Georgia in the SEC East. Tennessee hasn't won the division since 2007 and hasn't won the league since 1998, also claiming the inaugural BCS National Championship.Though not there yet, Jones has, at the very least, already restored a certain level of excitement.
